Carvel G. and Sister Lois Jackson from Mesa, Arizona was called to
be the first directors of Cove Fort Historical Site.
Church President Gordon B. Hinckley called them into his office
where he expressed his concerns about them getting lonely all by
themselves way out in Cove Fort. Elder Jackson said, “Wow, is
that all you are worried about? Lois and I are good friends and we
like each other, you don’t have to worry about that.&lrquo; This
proved to be true. They enjoyed their time together and kept very
busy during the winter cleaning all the rooms and dishes at the
Fort in between visiting with all the people who stopped by to see
the fort.
During the summer time they had many service missionaries who drove
to the fort everyday from Beaver, Central City, Delta, Fillmore,
Flowell, Holden, Kanosh, Meadow, Monroe, Oak City, Richfield, and
Scipio. Cove Fort brought all those missionaries together in
a common purpose and in its own way helped unify three different
counties. They had wonderful experiences at Cove Fort with the
missionaries they served with.
